Ventura Partners' predecessor, 3-D Ventures, acted in the role of
Business Development Coordinator for the Santa Cruz Community
Housing Corporation in developing and implementing an incubator
program involving two mixed-use projects in the city of Santa Cruz.
One project, located in the central business district, was experiencing
economic difficulties after the Loma Prieta earth-quake.
The second, located in the "Beach Flats Area" of the city near the
municipal beach and the Boardwalk, was surrounded by an neighborhood
characterized by dilapidated low income housing with very few
neighborhood services, and which is severely impacted by tourist
traffic during peak seasons.
The first floor of each of these projects contained commercial space
dedicated for use by start-up businesses owned and operated by low-income
local residents, with the goals of enhancing the economic base of the
areas in question and creating business ownership opportunities for
individuals un-able to enter the mainstream due to social or
economic barriers.
3D Ventures provided provided these services in its work:
PREPARING, TRAINING AND SELECTING BUSINESSES
Conducted preliminary training in small business start-
up and operation to 30 individuals, the majority low-income.
Provided direct technical assistance to 24 low-income
individuals in preparing feasibility analyses of their propos-
ed businesses.
